MAYOR GAYLOR BAIRD CALLS ON STATE SENATOR GEIST TO DENOUNCE LIES

Lincoln, NE – Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird called on State Senator Suzanne Geist to denounce lies being spread by Together Nebraska, a Political Action Committee supporting her bid for mayor.

“Buying elections with seedy attack ads full of lies may work in national politics, but we should reject that approach in our city. To set the record straight, I have lived in my home in Lincoln’s Near South neighborhood for over 20 years, we pay our property taxes here, and all three of my children attended Lincoln Public Schools – one still does. ” said Mayor Gaylor Baird.

The mayor’s neighbors, Bruce and Lori Waters, confirmed her residence, saying “Leirion and her family are our neighbors in the Near South neighborhood and have been for over 20 years. In fact, we live on the same street. We see Leirion leaving for work every morning and coming home every evening. All of the ads implying she does not live in Lincoln are completely false.”

“In a normal election, I stop by people’s houses to talk to them. This year, people are stopping by my house,” said Mayor Gaylor Baird.

The mayor received an email from her husband, who was home on Thursday, relating that, “An elderly man just rang the doorbell. He wanted to stop by and see if you still lived here. I opened the door so that he could see how lived-in our house looks. He said he thought that you still did. He said he had received something in the mail that said we didn’t live here.”

While her family does own a lake house in Ashland, the mayor spends only occasional weekends and holidays there.

“I call on my opponent, State Senator Geist, to publicly denounce these lies and tell her supporters to stop perpetuating them,” said Mayor Gaylor Baird.
