Lincoln Police Union Endorses Leirion

The Lincoln Police Union has announced it is endorsing Leirion Gaylor Baird in her bid to be Lincoln’s next mayor.

Gaylor Baird “has the proven leadership skills and the knowledge of city government to keep Lincoln moving forward,” said Chris Milisits, president of the Lincoln Police Union, in a letter of support.

The Lincoln Police Department has been understaffed for the past 25 years and has one of the lowest staffed departments in the nation compared to similar-sized cities, according to the letter.

Gaylor Baird has announced her plans to hire additional officers and has made a commitment to the citizens of Lincoln to ensure that their safety is a top priority, the union said.

During her time on the council, Gaylor Baird has also supported efforts to ensure the police/fire pension system is being properly funded, the union letter said.
